- Summer Intern (Forensic Science Division)
- be permanent residents of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region;
- be full-time Year 3 or above students of undergraduate or post-graduate programmes in post-secondary institutions and majoring in Chemistry, Biochemistry or Forensic Science, preferably with background knowledge of mass spectrometry or optical spectroscopy;
- met the language proficiency requirements of Level 4 in Chinese Language and English Language of the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSEE) or Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE), or equivalent;
- be proficient in using MS Office application;
- be fluent in both Cantonese and English; and
- familiarity with AI tools relevant to data analysis and reporting is considered an advantage.
Duties: Summer interns are mainly deployed to (a) assist Chemist in conducting method verification / validation work on the determination of some identified and pre-selected chemical markers for various food samples which are suspected to be contaminated; and (b) employ advanced instrumentation techniques such as high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), gas chromatography – mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and liquid chromatography – tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) in analysing target chemical markers in different food matrices.
Employment Period: July to August 2026 (around two months)

Duties: Summer interns are mainly deployed to (a) assist Chemist in method development for screening body fluids using multispectral imaging system; or (b) assist Chemist in method development for screening common drugs and poisons in biological specimens using liquid chromatography – mass spectrometry; or (c) assist Chemist in method development for “Infrared Spectroscopic Identification of Illicit Drugs”.
Employment Period: June to August 2026 (around three months)

For appointment purpose,
- Grade D in Chinese Language and Culture or Chinese Language and Literature of the Hong Kong Advanced Level Examination (HKALE) are accepted as equivalent to Level 4 in Chinese Language of the HKDSEE;
- Grade D in Use of English of the HKALE or Grade D in English Language of the General Certificate of Education (Advanced Level) are accepted as equivalent to Level 4 in English Language of the HKDSEE; and
- Applicants with an overall band of 6.5 or above with no subtest score below band 6 obtained in the same sitting in the Academic Module of the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) within the two-year validity period of the test result are also accepted. The IELTS test result must be valid on any date during the application period.
Terms of Appointment: Summer interns are engaged under non-civil service appointment. They are normally required to work 44 hours per week. They are eligible for rest days, statutory holidays, general holidays, and sickness days where appropriate will be granted to successful candidates in line with the provisions of the Employment Ordinance. They are subject to the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Ordinance (Cap. 485).
