Analytical & Advisory Services Division

Strategic Development Section

About the Section

It is a purposely established research and development section which aims (i) to support other operational sections of the Laboratory through provision of urgent analytical services, and (ii) to disseminate the usefulness of chemical metrology activities in advancement of measurement sciences and in providing support to the development of local certification and testing industry.

Responsibilities

The key responsibilities are:

  • Anticipating and responding to emergency incidents such as food crises, adulteration of pharmaceutical products, etc.
  • Organizing local, regional and international proficiency testing programs to improve measurement capability of testing laboratories
  • Organizing regional and international chemical metrology programs to introduce and to deliver accurate measurement techniques to local field laboratories
  • Developing and preparing reference materials to facilitate traceable chemical measurement linkage to local field laboratories
  • Initiating research and development projects to strengthen and to diversify existing analytical services to client departments

Quality Assurance

Typical percentage of quality control samples analysed: 25%
